3rd grade architects worked together to build their dream school. Here were the steps:
1. We read If I Built a School, by Chris Van Dusen (illustrator of Mercy Watson series), where student architects became inspired by different school designs.
2. Students generated ideas about what they want to include in their own school room.
3. Students learned what a floor plan is and the perspective, a "bird's-eye view."
4. Students designed their own floor plan.
5. Working together in groups, students had to discuss where to put each floor plan.
6. Lastly, the groups built their own school using straws and connectors, while adding their floor plans! Here are some pictures of their finished products:
